let's talk!
So i was sitting here this moring after i took my brother to the train, and I couldn't help but think about who God is in our lives and what we have made Him to be.
Most of us would not ever think that we limit God but I have found in my life that this is exactly what many many people who profess faith do. We limit God. You ask how do we limit God how is it that we don't let God be all that God is? It's really simply, we think we know who God is. I am always amazed to hear people say things like, God helped me through this, or God was right there beside me, or God told me.... and my personal fav is " I've been praying and I feel that God is telling me to tell you that........." How Big is your God? and do you truly believe it? Is your God so well defined that you could write a paper or a sermon about his attributes and how they interact with humanity? Is Our God SO WHITE COLLIER that we have forgoten how Blue Collier the Awsome mighty King of the universe really is?
now I might start stepping on toes, but has your church made God this spirit that is like our personal body guard, or our personal concious. Guys, WAKE UP... GOD IS A HANDS ON DIRTY GOD, who is not looking out for you. God is not looking our for you but for all of who you are. There is a difference. If God is lookig out for you, you have stripped him of his ability o guide you, to be that lamp on the dark path, we have stripped Him of his ability to shape history for all of humanity, we strip God of his ability to be omniscient. On the other hand if we allow God to look out for all of who we are we allow him to shape the world, to be in all places at the same time, to move us down some other path, God is allowed to be God, the God that I have known to trust dispite those around me who claim to serve the same God.
just a few thoughts on how we interact and limit God. I beleive that God allows us to limit him because god is a respector of persons and would not disrespect us by pushing us beyond our understanding of him.
give me some feed back here, I'm looking to flesh this thought out a little bit more.
thanks again everyone.

hmmm interesting topic. I definitely agree that we put God in a box. not necisarily intentionally, but more like a knee jerk reaction. it's what were trained to do. Almost everything in our lives becomes compartementalized and so we do the same with religion and God.
The question I face, is how do we remove God from the box while still giving him and us parameters to understand by? I think maybe that we have trained ourselves to know God by the boxes we put him in. How do we remove them and still understand God?
One question... you said that you dont think God is taking care of us in the smallness of life (perhaps cited wrong...sorry) and while I see where your going with it, dont you think there is scripture to support that he does care about the small and minute?
Thanks for posting about this! Im excited to see the conversation on the topic!
